When a child is bullied in a classroom, it is no longer just about teasing. If ignored, the problem becomes even more serious. Today, many children reach adulthood affected by the anxiety and distress that bullying caused them throughout their adolescence. Bullying has become a major problem in many public school systems in the United States. Children and adolescents face challenges related to their ability to learn due to threats to their physical and emotional safety. A number of prevention strategies and programs have been shown to be effective in reducing violence and harassment. Regulation is essential for the future of these adolescents and not enough is being done to implement these strategies. Many children bully because of their home lives, where they may experience anger, frustration, abuse and stress. Some bully because they like control, some have trouble following rules, some lack compassion and view violence as acceptable. Lack of proper parental guidance can lead children to act out. They look for victims with particular needs and characteristics that clearly distinguish them from others, which in some cases; they are the ones who feel excluded (CSAP). Victims usually remember being left out and exposed to these problems earlier: “The path that begins with exclusion leads to loneliness, dissatisfaction with social relationships and strong resistance at school” (NoBully.com). Harassment sometimes puts victims' lives in danger. Although teasing and playing are part of growing and learning, it is not a rite of passage.
