    Altruistic behavior is an activity intended to help another person without expectation of reward (Papalia, Feldman & Martorell, 2012). During cleaning time, Savannah was happy to help clean the area around her, expecting absolutely nothing in return. As mentioned above, Savannah had a very gentle and calm temperament. Even though she was very active, she remained quiet and still during mat time towards the end of the hour. She respected and interacted with the teacher from the start. During her time on the mat, Savannah sang with the class and told the teacher about St. Patrick's Day. At that point, she was able to “self-assess.” She was very proud of herself because she knew the songs, what day of the week it was and the weather outside. When it was time to move on to the other room, Savannah quickly grabbed her friend's hand and held it while they waited in line. While waiting in line, Savannah obeyed the teacher's orders to be quiet and stay still. Even though she is young, Savannah is aware of her gender identity. Gender identity is the awareness of one's femininity or masculinity (Papalia, Feldman & Martorell, 2012). She tended to play with objects that girls would typically be seen playing with while staying away from boys and their dinosaur toys.
