“The sunset here rises there, shining on the English world. » Students engage with British literature and its important poets; however, readers are moving away from American poetry and toward the world of British poets. For example, George Granville Barker was a poet who captured his reader's attention with his exotic romantic poems dealing with sex and death. The collection of facts from the research will document the wonderful life of this magnificent British poet, various works, achievements and poems explained. British poet George Granville Barker was born in Loughton, Essex, England on February 26, 1913. He was born to parents George and Marion Frances Barker (Vinson and Kirkpatrick 55). George attended two schools, Marlborough Road School with his other siblings before moving, as well as Street Polytechnic, a secondary school, until the age of fourteen when he gave up his job as a paper designer painted at a garage. He sometimes slept on Putney Common with newspaper wrapped around his body for warmth. His lifestyle was poor as he slept in the open air, as he no longer lived with his family. When Barker was young, his family left Loughton and moved to Chelsea in London, where he felt isolated from his own culture, so he moved to the United States. George had three wonderful marriages. George's first marriage was to Jessica Woodward, they married in 1935 and divorced in 1940. Barker remarried shortly after his first marriage. He remarried in 1942 to Elizabeth. George's third and final marriage was a great success. He married Elspeth Langland on January 10, 1964. They had five children: Rafaella-Flora, Alexander, Roderick, Samuel and Lily (Lesniak and Trosky 46). Barker had a poor man; yet advanced...... middle of paper ......ol only to start his career.
