  • Essay / The causes and effects of homosexuality and...

The main claim made by psychologists about the cause of homosexuality is that homosexuals grow up and/or mature in an unnatural environment compared to that of adults normal and healthy. There are two main unnatural environments: the romantic environment and the adolescent environment. Scientists have conducted research and found that most homosexuals are not born with their sexual orientation, but young people view this lifestyle as a point of refuge. “Young people who have had poor heterosexual relationships that caused physical or mental pain may withdraw from heterosexual experiences” (Miller 46). If the average human finds that they fail multiple times, the other option may result in more success. Young people today are more eager than ever to enter into romantic relationships, which increases the likelihood of failure and therefore the likelihood that young people will turn to homosexuality. The problem arises when we realize that the average teenager is not mature enough to manage their own relationship and is more likely to fail than the average, more mature adult. This rise in relationship failures is unnatural in society, which now concludes that homosexuality is unnatural in society. The second unnatural environment in which homosexuals seem to have been raised is the adolescent environment. It is about the atmospheres created by parents and peers. “As you can see, your parents played a key role in shaping your sexual identity. But research has shown that the attitudes you hold today were also determined by another group, your peers” (Miller 46). The very first things a child learns are what they hear from their parents.
