  • Essay / Case Study: Traveling Volleyball Team - 1242

My sister is the supervisor of the sixth floor nursing staff at the United Hospital Center. I met most of the nursing staff and was able to talk to them about the culture of night shift nursing, because to me it's a subculture. The disadvantage of carrying out this project is access to the workplace. I could do interviews, listen to conversations, but I wouldn't be able to be fully present in the workplace due to the work schedule and the type of work they do as well. The reason I'm interested in this project is because I always hear that working with certain people can make all the difference in the work. My sister was only a nurse, but after working at the hospital for two years she became a supervisor while others had been working longer than her, so I'm interested to know if things have changed for her by working with the same people she leads today. Also, why do all the nurses leave for a different floor or location always come back to the sixth floor, is it the people, the floor, the work that keeps them coming back. I think about how the people you work with change you and how you become family almost through the work you do. They hang out with each other, go together, have inside jokes, and definitely have the common complaints of being a nurse, but they always make sure to help each other do well when doing such a hard job that 'really don't get it, respect it
