Motivation AssessmentMartin Luther King, Jr. was a famous activist and leader of the African-American civil rights movement. Throughout his leadership in the African-American civil rights movement, King made various choices to end racial segregation and racial discrimination. The work led by King was carried out with respect for non-violence and civil disobedience. However, the choices King made led to his assassination. The three conceptions of motivation, such as psychoanalytic, humanistic, and diversity, each played a role in King's assassination. King's psychoanalytic motivation was provoked by the aggression of seeing people of his color being treated unequally. As a child, King saw firsthand the racial hatred, violence, and abuse that African Americans suffered in their daily lives. King entered adulthood and realized that racial segregation and discrimination were getting significantly worse. King's psychoanalytic motivation was suppressed by focusing his work on ending racial segregation and racial discrimination. King continually traveled the country and gave his motivational speeches to inform others that all individuals should be treated equally. Despite his drive and dreams, King was not well-liked by everyone, especially those of the white race. King didn't care what others thought of him or what might happen to him. In his final "I've Been to the Mountaintop" speech, King said, "What would happen to me from some of our sick white brothers?" Well, I don't know what's going to happen now. We have difficult days ahead of us. But that doesn't matter to me anymore. Because I went to the top of the mountain. And that doesn't bother me. Like everyone, I would like to live a long life. Longevity has its place. But I'm not worried... middle of paper ......ds and motivations. Nonetheless, King made many wise choices to help end racial segregation and discrimination. King's work was influenced not only by his needs, but also by those of his peers. Although he did not reach his peak of self-realization, he still accomplished a lot during his time. Years after his assassination, his dreams of ending racial segregation and discrimination would come true. King continues to be recognized for the work he has done and he continues to be known as one of the most influential activists of all time. Works Cited McAdams, D. (2009).
