  • Essay / The negative effects of genetically modified organisms...

“Our primary health care should start on the farm and in our hearts, not in a laboratory of biotechnology and pharmaceutical companies” (Gary Hopkins). There are scientific discoveries showing that DNA can be passed from one organism to another. Biotechnology is leading to a process of genetic modification that is progressing across the planet. In 2004, genetically modified organisms (GMOs) began to be grown by 8.25 million farmers in 17 countries (James, 2004). ). GMO is an organism whose genetic material has been modified using genetic engineering techniques. Genetically modified organisms are refined into our foods and freshly grown crops are eaten every day and also cause allergies, while others get sick. GMOs also tend to be bad for our environment. Many crops are grown and are affected, such as soybeans, which need to be monitored as early as possible because they are bad for our body and our environment. , and our foods that we consume daily. Genetically modified organisms are bad for our bodies. The Institute of Biotechnology demonstrates that there are 3 components of a genetically modified organism, a gene to be transferred, an organism into which it is desired to introduce and the vector to produce the gene. A transgene is also included and what a transgene does is isolate and cut the DNA of the original organism (page 1). This means that genetically modified organisms function primarily through their three components. Transgenes are there to lead you to a new organism than the one you started from the original organism.
