The title of the play is "A View from the Bridge" and it was written by Arthur Miller in 1995 during the post-war period. A postwar period is the interlude immediately following the start of a war and continues as long as another war does not occur. During this period, migration was very popular, especially in the Europe area, as it was badly affected by the world war and the majority of people emigrated to the United States of America, such as Marco and Rodolfo who had emigrated from Sicily and entered the United States illegally and stayed with Eddie, his wife Beatrice, and their niece Catherine. As we approach the climax of Act 1, tension increases within the household as a relationship develops between Catherine and Rodolfo. At the start of the scene, an argument breaks out about what time the young couple returns from the cinema. Eddie is sitting there quietly reading a newspaper and Catherine stands up and asks Rodolfo to dance while she pulls him up and the stage directions tell us that "he stands up stiffly, feeling Eddie's eyes on his back."
