As we learn early on, four brothers from the Ryan family all go off to serve the United States, and in combat, three of the four are killed. This story follows a group of soldiers on their journey as they search for the last survivor of the Ryan brothers, Private First Class James Ryan, and send him home. World War II was the deadliest and most extensive war in history which lasted for six years. During World War II, battles were fought and rescue missions took place, and the United States military showed courage in fighting for our country. During the six-year Second World War, many battles took place. Three famous major events of this war are D-Day, Pearl Harbor and the Battle of Iwo Jima. D-Day, which begins Saving Private Ryan, is known as the largest amphibious attack in history. Before the attack could take place, a lot of planning was done. A few months before the attack, General Dwight Eisenhower led an Allied operation designed to make Germany believe that its main invasion target was Pas-de-Calais, as well as a few other locations. The operation that led Germany to believe was carried out by fake equipment, a ghost army located in England, counterfeit radio transmissions and double agents. Once Eisenhower realized that Germany was being misled, he led his troops into battle. This attack began with the landing of British, American and Canadian forces on five different beaches along the Normandy coast on June 6, 1944. By the end of the first day, approximately 156,000 people...... middle of paper. .. ...and we see the heroic actions our American service members and their families have taken to defend our country. Private Ryan could have easily given in to his rescue team and returned home when he heard the news that his brothers and members of his rescue team had gotten lost while searching for him. Private Ryan, along with all other military men and women, are proud of the country they fight for and are ready to do anything to defend it. As we have watched our military defend our country during the deadliest and largest war in history, World War II, we can see that it is these actions that make our countries true heroes. During World War II, there were battles and rescue missions, and the United States military showed courage in fighting for our country and because of them, we became a stronger and freer country..
