Essay / Sustainable Urban Zone - 898
Our Sustainable Urban Zone model is made up of several interacting parts, each relying on each other in order to successfully transport the population to the destination they have in mind . The first is a system of trains located outside the city itself, which will allow goods and people to travel long distances. The city center will have very few cars because our autonomous electric automobiles will primarily be used to connect these train stations and other residences to the center of the urban area. As this setup leaves the city with a lack of air transportation, the underground subway will be forced to accommodate any additional commuters looking to travel a considerable distance within the city limits. However, there remains one major system that is so simple that many often forget about it. One of the first things almost everyone learns to do as a child is the skill we take for granted almost every day: walk. This relatively simple but essential method was almost always the first priority when building cities before the modern era, which almost guaranteed a city-wide road system and network that would make travel to almost anything effortless. the places you had to go. Despite the fact that these urban planners were dealing with a much smaller population and scale, their ability to create a truly walkable urban environment is something that modern humans can only marvel at, even with more advanced technology. With the invention of the automobile, people were able to quickly transport themselves and whatever goods they carried at speeds our ancestors could only dream of. But even with all the positives they have brought, cars are responsible...... middle of paper ...... modern city street is more than worth it. With a combination of the three main topics mentioned above, our city will provide a model for others to create their own sustainable transportation systems. Autonomous vehicles, improved and more popular public transportation, and pedestrian-only sections of the city: all would share the burden of providing a reliable public transportation option for all of our citizens. The lifeblood of our city will be able to stand the test of time, using renewable energy and reducing pollution levels at every turn. Commerce and human interaction will flourish. All that remains is to lay the first brick and start creating this utopian transportation system. Works Cited PBSC. Internet. March 2, 2014. .New urbanism.. Web. March 2 2014. .
