Essay / Personal Experience: My Personal Leadership Philosophy
I always knew I was the best follower, but not necessarily a leader. Before taking this course, my leadership philosophy was that of any person being responsible for a group in order to give instructions or orders. This type of leadership has been adopted by various cultures around the world for centuries. With new emerging leadership styles such as contemporary leadership, followers actually have the opportunity to express their opinions. I hope to learn new skills that will ultimately help me in the professional field as well as in my community. I have found servant leadership to be the most important type of leadership. Komives, Lucas, and McMahon (1998) mentioned people who are dedicated to building communities to become better places for others (p. 170). This is the type of leader I strive to become
