Joseph RizziLegal Mechanics of CrimeThe Case of OJ SimpsonThe job of a criminal lawyer is quite difficult. Whether for the defense or the prosecution, you must work diligently and quickly to convince the jury. Some lawyers play the dirty game and try to get their client off the hook even though they are undoubtedly guilty. Even if all the evidence is there, the prosecution sometimes fails to put the last piece of the puzzle together to make the case stick and lock up the criminal. This is the case of Orenthal James Simpson. In 1994, football professional and actor Orenthal James Simpson was tried for the murders of his wife and a waiter. OJ's wife and the waiter were found murdered outside his apartment. OJ and his wife had divorced years before the murder, so in retrospect OJ automatically seems guilty. OJ's wife was found stabbed multiple times in the head and neck. Her hands also had injuries, showing that she was trying to defend herself against the attacker. The wounds on his neck were so severe, his throat was wide open and his spine had been pierced by the blade. A few days after the discovery of the bodies, the police convinced OJ to turn himself in to them. However, OJ never showed up at the police station. After some time, the police issued an APB on OJ and his white Ford Bronco. And APB means “all points report card”. An APB is essentially a warning to police officers to look for a certain person or vehicle that is known to be wanted or of interest to the police department. After the PDB was sent, the Simpsons' friend and lawyer read aloud a note found in OJ's house. The police took this as a suicide note because of what was stated in the letter. However, later that day, Simpson's blood ...... middle of paper ...... was found at the crime scene. There may be ways to hide such evidence, but it would be rather difficult to draw blood from a man without him realizing it and drop it at a crime scene. I would have also expressed that OJ had a motive to kill his ex-wife, as well as a history of violent outbursts towards her. With all the evidence the prosecution had, they should have been able to pin the murder on OJ beyond a reasonable doubt. Everything pointed to OJ being the murderer. The only thing the prosecution couldn't do was put the bloody glove on OJ's hand. The only problem is that the glove was made of leather and had been soaked in blood before it was found. When leather is soaked in liquid, it tends to shrink. If only the prosecution had realized this, the case would have been theirs.
