Essay / Developing Management Skills - 1249
INTRODUCTIONMintzberg (2013, P.44) said that management combines all these skills, like leading, doing, thinking and deciding and more, together, without applying them individually. A good manager must be able to master all these skills to accomplish the job of management. But the question is, what useful skills should a manager be able to acquire? Mintzberg outlined his own theory that management can be known in three main aspects: information, people and action. For the informational aspect, a manager must be able to communicate and control; for the human aspect, a manager must be able to lead and create connections; and for the action aspect, a manager must be able to do and manage. These are the right methods for a manager to manage something well. Viitala (2005) concluded another theory on management skills which contains six categories relevant to technical skills, knowledge, knowledge, leadership and supervisory skills, social and intrapersonal skills. Technical skills enable managers to manage the content of the processes for which they are responsible using tools, procedures and techniques. Business skills are linked to any business, they force managers to think, to direct the management system. Knowledge management skills include many professional management knowledge such as concept formation and problem solving. Leadership and supervisory skills are about directing, supporting and involving people. Social skills include the manager's ability to build relationships with stakeholders. Intrapersonal skills tend to provide managers with the capacity for self-control.CURRENT SKILLSCommunicating and controllingCommunication skill, in a simple...... middle of paper ......d, and when to stop heating up.
