In March 2014, it was rumored that Haven Middle School in Evanston, Illinois had banned tight pants, including leggings and skinny jeans. The school's new dress code rule sparked a wave of student protests and media attention. Students and parents were frustrated with the ban on the popular pants because they felt the ban was aimed directly at female students and not male students. However, Melissa Burda, spokesperson for Haven School District 65, has publicly stated that "rumors that the school has banned leggings and skinny jeans are not the truth." Students at the school are allowed to wear leggings, yoga pants and skinny jeans.
