Why School Uniforms Are a MustEnglish 122Instructor: Nelly AguilarBy. Melodie Ford March 30, 2014 As our traditional American attitudes change, society as a whole has had to adapt in several major ways. Violence is on the rise across our country and equality is as much of an issue today as it was in the 1950s and 1960s. Protecting our children from violence and harassment is a necessity and keeping them equal in school is imperative . As our county has grown, we have seen many diverse groups move into more rural areas. This has caused great concern among some parents and they want to be able to provide the best educational experience for their children, without feeling the pressure to keep up with the Joneses. School uniforms increased equality in lower grades and helped reduce violent offenses in higher grades. Too often, children are forced to fit in. When they don't, it's difficult for them to function in school. Kids will take from others, steal from them and even murder them so they can have the latest Jordan or Nike hat. When kids wear uniforms, they all look the same, much like their teammates. Able Being able to tell who owns the school is important to keeping gangs away. It also prevents those who plan to harm others from entering the building by helping staff identify who should or should not be on school grounds. Yes, I know there are ways around this, but it would deter some. I think schools that adopt a uniform for teachers and students are taking a big step further in ensuring that students are clear about who belongs in the school and who doesn't. According to King (1998), "children's hunger to be fashionable brings another dimension to the connection between clothing style and... middle of paper... better quality shoes or clothes." Some children don't care about their appearance at all, because they go to school to learn. This has caused great concern among some parents who want to be able to provide the best educational experience for their children, without feeling the pressure to keep up. Not only is equality an issue, but reducing school violence becomes a bigger issue every year. School uniforms increased equality in lower grades and helped reduce violent offenses in higher grades. By allowing our children to feel equal and receive a good education, we are doing what our ancestors fought for, which is giving them the knowledge they need to be free. The more you know in life, the more successful you will be and by providing our children with a safe, non-threatening, egalitarian, collaborative environment, we add to their chances of success..
