Growing up in Hawaii, I had many unique experiences that other American teenagers did not have. My family has lived in Hawaii for several generations and since I was born, my mother has strongly encouraged me to know and learn more about my heritage. Since my mother was from Molokai, she had many different Hawaiian experiences. Plus, since my grandmother lived there, I spent as much time on Molokai as I did on Maui. For me, the true Hawaiian experience is on an island like Molokai, because there is so much more that hasn't been seen or discovered like on Maui. I believe that the true Hawaiian experience is not in a crowded place crowded with people, but in a place that actually feels like old Hawaii. Ever since I was young, Molokai has always been the place my family could get away to. A place free from the daily routines and annoyances that people experience every day. It is a place of pure love and joy that you receive in large doses. A place called “Friendly Island” because that’s exactly what it is. A place where you call people naked...
