For example, in Ivory Coast, the group goal prevails. Indeed, individuals share a common goal and work for the success of the group or organization. Oscar Rudenstam in his article “Individualism versus Collectivism” points out that in a collectivist culture like that of the Ivory Coast, the workplace has a higher priority than the individual. This mindset means that individuals are more likely to put the interests of the institution ahead of their own and work together to achieve the institution's goal. In fact, the Ivorian motto “Union-Discipline-Work” best illustrates this point. In contrast, in the United States, the individual goal and the concept of “self-made man” are pronounced. In the same article "Individualism versus Collectivism", Rudenstam comments that "it is typical of a relatively individualistic individual to prioritize his or her individual ambitions to a higher degree and to strive to realize those ambitions." Rudenstam believes that an individualistic individual tends to value personal accomplishment more. The individual is solely responsible for his or her success and achievements. A collectivist culture that promotes and works for the success of the institution is opposed to an individualistic culture where individuals focus on achieving their personal goals.
