    ItalyItaly is a European country. Italian is its official language and 93% of the population is a native Italian speaker. Its ethnicity includes small groups of German-Italians, French-Italians, Slovenian-Italians, Albanian-Italians, and Greek-Italians. Different groups of people come with different religious beliefs. Religion has influenced Italy's culture, artists, and national treasures in various ways. Culture is an aspect of Italy heavily influenced by religion. Religion was part of the state constitution. The inhabitants of Italy are Catholics, Protestants, Jews and Muslims. The Muslim community continues to grow. Jews, Muslims, Orthodox and Eastern Rite Catholics represent approximately 2% of the population. The Roman Catholic community represents the majority of Italy. There are more individual Catholic churches in Italy than in any other country. Rome and Vatican City alone are full of thousands of shrines, relics and churches. Church attendance is quite low, but the influence of the Church remains high. Many office buildings contain a cross or religious statue in the lobby. The Church establishes a hierarchy, visible in all relationships between Italians. Italians respect their elders, those who have achieved business success, and people from well-connected families. Each day of the year is associated with at least one patron street. Even trades and professions have a patron saint. Children are named after a particular saint and celebrate their birthday as if it were their own birthday. In 1884, an agreement was concluded between the Italian Republic and the Vatican, which would be modified by the Lateran Concord of 1929 and ratified by a new law in 1985.
