Essay / Theories and principles for planning and enabling learning
After researching and examining the theories in more detail, I will discuss how they have affected my planning and delivery of learning. I have identified that behaviorism and cognitivism are present in my lesson planning and delivery. I use behaviorism because there is an element of motivation to this principle. Due to my learners' lack of confidence and self-esteem, there is a greater need to focus on building their motivation to succeed in the course. Positive and negative reinforcement helps manage behaviors in the lesson by encouraging positive behaviors while removing inappropriate and negative aspects. I adapt my lesson plans to incorporate feedback and praise and address any areas where learners can improve. Petty states that “motivation in the behaviorist world is extrinsic in nature.” Learning is encouraged by a reward of some kind” (2012: 17). The majority of my learners complete my courses through their employment advisors and arrive with a positive attitude and eager to complete the course. Giving learners rewards increases their confidence and desire to learn to keep them more engaged and enthusiastic. My course focuses on the end result of gaining a qualification and this is achieved through an online exam with set topics to be covered in the lessons. This program demonstrates a behaviorist theory of learning through teacher-centered delivery, in which the teacher provides the stimuli for learners to respond. I use this method with rewards to extract maximum results from learners so that they can reach their full potential to complete the units set in the course and achieve the main objective of obtaining qualification for the course. Although I use behaviorism, I also use the learners in the middle of the sheet......whether it is not deliberate or by chance and they play an important part of my teaching and learning. learning of my learners. As I am now aware of these principles and theories, I will use them when planning and delivering my learning that will best benefit my learners. I would focus on individuals within a group and focus on providing an inclusive learning experience that is enjoyable and helps learners build their motivation, confidence and self-esteem so that they can achieve their goal of successfully completing the course.
