  • Essay / My move to America - 1162

My story begins in 2003, when I decided to follow my dreams and go to a far away country called America. My journey is full of surprises and new discoveries of a world so different from the one I leave behind, with its own culture and beliefs. It is the story of a young woman and her first encounter with a new society, her first time away from home and family. It wasn't an easy decision to leave everything and everyone behind, but I so wanted to travel and discover this new world that I had only seen in the movies, the land of Columbus, where the Indians and African Americans lived united over a vast territory. I was 23 when I took a plane into the unknown, the new world I had always dreamed of. It was my first time on a plane, which ended in an exhausting 12-hour journey, but at the same time it was exciting to look through the small window at the blue ocean spreading like a huge blanket endless. I remember the old lady sitting right next to me, in a deep sleep, wondering how she could miss all these beauties that God has created. Finally, we landed in New York, “The city that never sleeps”, at one of the largest airports in the United States, JF Kennedy, where my best friend Josaline was waiting for me. I was very happy to be there after so many sleepless hours, but that no longer mattered, because I had reached my long-awaited destination. With all the excitement, I didn't care how tired I was, at that very moment I wanted...... middle of paper ......e from my family I am the person I am 5 out of 5 today, because of them, I continue to be here in a distant country where I returned a year later because I could not stay away. I felt like this was where I belonged, where I could achieve my goals and change my life in a better way. And most importantly, I had the support of my family in every decision I made. Finally, one day, they had the chance to come and see this breathtaking world for themselves. And that's where my new life begins, in a new world, full of surprises where I discovered that dreams are never too big or too small. But that's another story to tell.
