    Although the public education system is under close scrutiny from many people and organizations that have the the impression that it is failing to provide an adequate education to students. . The common core is not the total answer to the problem. Parents, teachers and politicians are starting to have problems with the program. Two states have repealed the Common Standard Curriculum as the framework for public education. The Common Core Curriculum was not a mandate of the federal government, it has many advantages, and at present it has more disadvantages that outweigh the advantages of the program. The No Child Left Behind Act of 2001 reignited the debate over the Common Core Standards. Signed into law by President George W. Bush in January 2002, the No Child Left Behind Act increases state accountability and other academic benchmarks for achieving certain levels of education and reporting the outcome of progress, whether successful or not. Every school in every state was required to administer the “Adequate Yearly Progress Test” (AYP). The test measured schools, districts and states on their ability to educate children. The results showed how they compared to other members in the country. The difficulty was that each state used its own standards for learning and determining subject proficiency. Some states had very high proficiency rates and others were considerably lower. The National Assessment of Educational Progress (NAEP), an annual test administered to all students, measures performance in core subjects in each state and shows that some states will consistently outperform other states. in mathematics, reading, writing, science, history, arts and other academic areas.
