Essay / Argumentative Essay on Gender Roles - 1266
“Boys will be boys,” a phrase coined to exonerate the entire male sex from past, present, and potential repugnant acts. This double standard between men and women dates back to the first civilizations and only exists because it is allowed, because it is taught. Gender roles and cues are instilled in children long before any knowledge of gender anatomy. This knowledge is learned socially, culturally, it is not innate. And these characteristics can vary when the environment in which we operate differs from the norm. Childrearing and cultural factors play an important role in how individuals act and perceive themselves. When expectant parents want to identify the gender of their child, the doctor sometimes asks them to paint the baby's room blue or pink rather than telling them the actual gender. Most often, they know who to expect, a boy or a girl, according to color, and how to stock the nursery, with trucks or dolls, why children are separated according to sex, and so early in life. life too? Sex is a reflection of biological organs, while gender is a state of mind. The concept of gender is so deeply ingrained in society that it becomes difficult to identify its effects as learned rather than natural phenomena (Devor 383). It seems only natural that women are the caregivers and men are the caregivers. Behaviors that people feel comfortable with are displayed openly towards their children. Susan D.
