Sherlock Holmes, originally written as a novel by Sir Arthur Conan Doyle, has been adapted over 25,000 times. The latest and arguably best adaptation began last night. This version of Sherlock is written and produced by Mark Gatiss, who participates in the series as well as Steven Moffat, screenwriter of Doctor Who. “The Nativity” star Martin Freeman plays John Watson, an Afghan soldier. Returning to London, Sherlock Holmes (Benedict Cumberbatch, War Horse) meets John Watson through a mutual acquaintance and becomes a roommate in Mrs. Hudson's house at 221B Baker Street. The subtle changes in the titles from the original books again emphasize the fact that this is a modern detective series instead of a period piece that many would expect upon hearing the title. John Watson isn't the only person taken aback when Sherlock starts making his deductions, as Sherlock's keen eye for detail is enough to make anyone slightly paranoid.
