Essay / The World is Flat by Thomas L. Friedman - 1294
“No civilization can survive when its agricultural economy is destroyed,” by Lloyd Noble. This quote refers to what people want to start doing in agriculture. When it comes to adding robots to something as important as agriculture, we know that it will start to be destroyed because not only will they stop being picked fresh, but more importantly it will cause people to lose their jobs to people. In the book The World is Flat by Thomas L. Friedman, he explains how our world is changing in terms of jobs and technology. He also explains how middle jobs will disappear due to the way “robots” will do the work we once did. Not only will our jobs be taken away by robots, but also by people from other countries. Friedman explains how jobs can become “untouchable.” This will help people not lose their jobs thanks to all the benefits they will receive; this will lead to the opening or creation of more jobs. In the Yakima Valley, we are known for the fresh fruits and vegetables we pick, but above all for the care taken to ensure their quality. Agriculture plays an important role in Yakima because it helps us create more jobs, but if you add agribots to the equation, all the freshly picked fruits and vegetables will disappear. While some people may agree that agribots are the best way to go because of the lower cost to farmers, they fail to see that having agribots will prevent the work from being new. They don't see that people who work in agriculture are better collaborators, explainers and environmentalists. When it comes to being more economical, people will go to great lengths to achieve it. Just like in agriculture, people want to start adding agribots because they are good collaborators, great explainers, and they will be our green people. Even though people think that it will be a good investment in agribots because it will cost farmers less, but in all honesty, when it comes to healthy eating, we can't put a price tag on it. With robots doing all the food picking, we won't know what's safe anymore, as my parents say: "The cheapest things end up costing the most." » So, are we ready to risk our health?
