Khan's (1990, 1992) second approach states that for effective engagement, members must feel that the work they are doing is effective (as cited in Xu and Thomas, 2011). Additionally, members need to know what their role is within the organization (Holman et al., 2007). Having the resources, role clarity and trust encourages the increased productivity and collaboration that the employee engagement process relies on.
