    Abortion is never an easy decision, but women have been making this choice for thousands of years. It has become a major dilemma since 1973, when the U.S. Supreme Court passed a law making the procedure legal, and an even larger controversial issue. The controversy is divided between “pro-choice” and “pro-life” views. Pro-Choice supporters believe that a woman should have the choice to have an abortion or not. Pro-life advocates believe it should be illegal to perform abortions and preformance. However, there are many ways to perform this procedure. Abortion still remains a controversial issue today, as to who should determine whether or not it is the right thing to do to terminate a pregnancy and how the procedure should be carried out. In 1973, a law was passed that legalized the abortion procedure. In 1969, Norma L. McCorvey discovered she was pregnant. Her friends advised her to claim she had been raped, because in Texas she could not obtain a legal abortion, but her plan failed because there were no police reports documenting the alleged rape.
