Although some believe that racial quotas are a necessity for diversity and equality, it is true that these quotas create discrimination and therefore should be abolished. Most have learned the phrase: “All men are created equal.” If this is the case, why, when applying for a career or college, does race play a role in whether or not you get the job? To end discrimination, the nation must ignore race, not impose quotas. Racial quotas were put in place to encourage diversity as well as to encourage minorities to enter different professions and strive for college degrees. It is certainly true that diversity and equal opportunity are our nation's goals. Although giving more value to certain ethnicities in the application process creates discrimination, which is what this “quota” attempts to prevent. Martin Luther King Jr.'s most famous quote: "I dream that my four little children will one day live in a nation where they will not be judged by the color of their skin, but by the content of their character."
