Love is a very powerful force that some believe has the ability to overcome hatred. In the play Romeo and Juliet, William Shakespeare presents various events in which the characters convey the message that love can conquer all. The characters in this play continue to forgive those they love, even in difficult circumstances. Furthermore, Shakespeare effectively demonstrates how Romeo and Juliet's mutual love dominates important emotional scenes in the play, including the quarrels between their two families. Furthermore, at the end of the play, the reader sees how love overcomes the shock of death and how the love of Romeo and Juliet ends the ancient feud between the Capulets and the Montagues. Using these three events, the reader discovers Shakespeare's message about how love conquers all. In the desperate battle between love and hate, Shakespeare sees love as the most powerful force in the tragedy of Romeo and Juliet. Shakespeare shows throughout the play how characters continue to forgive those they love, even in difficult circumstances. Angered by the death of his good friend Mercutio, Romeo kills Tybalt. "This gentleman, the prince's close ally, /My friend, has suffered this mortal injury in my favor - my reputation tarnished /By the slanders of Tybalt - Tybalt, it is an hour ago /Has been my cousin."(3, 1 , 104-108). Juliet might have been very angry with Romeo since Tybalt was her cousin, but she was more heartbroken by Romeo's exile. Shakespeare shows that Juliet's love for Romeo surpassed the hatred she had for Tybalt's murder. Furthermore, Shakespeare showed that love conquers hatred through the relationship between Juliet and her father, Lord Capulet. Towards the end of the play, Capulet told Juliet that she had... middle of paper ... ending the feud between the families and how the love between Romeo and Juliet had brought the families together.At the end Ultimately, William Shakespeare shows in different ways throughout the play “Romeo and Juliet” that love is the more powerful force than hatred. Readers see how the characters continually forgive each other, even when conditions are difficult. Friendships between specific characters display a bond of love that cannot be broken by hatred. Shakespeare demonstrates that the love of Romeo and Juliet can overcome the hatred of many events in the play. It shows that their love can even overcome the death of their own family member.
