In the 1980s, downhill skateboarding competitions were held. Everything about alpine skating has changed. Today, many technological advances continue to change the sport. Skateboard wheels, trucks, and decks are all designed for more specific uses. Downhill competitions are held regularly today around the world. By far the most popular type of skateboarding today is street skating. The reason street skating is popular is because it doesn't require anything other than a skateboard and a hard surface to skate on. People who skate on the street tend to be fascinated with flipping the board, while people who skate vert tend to focus on flipping or rotating their entire body while in the air.
