Teenagers around the world love staying up late and sleeping later, but it could have drastic negative effects on their lives. A recent TIME article was published on the nighttime sleep habits of adolescents that could affect them from ages 5 to 8. Going to bed early and balancing homework can be extremely difficult, but falling asleep before eleven thirty is vital to a teenager's life. Teenagers are affected both academically and emotionally when they stay up late, but there are a few solutions to change this. Teenagers who regularly stay up past eleven-thirty suffer both academically and emotionally. 2,700 teenagers were studied and 30% of them stayed awake after 11:30 a.m. Students aged 14 to 16 had a dramatic and negative difference in their GPA compared to students who slept more. Lack of sleep and fatigue from going to school have seriously affected children's academic performance, and if their GPAs are so much lower than those of their other classmates, it could seriously prevent these "night owls" from get into a good university.
