The story of two men growing up in the same neighborhood with similar backgrounds, the same name, and eerily similar circumstances that lead and ultimately cause each character to end up in some very different from life. Taking completely different paths towards their future is the framework of this story "The Other Wes Moore". How a person is shaped and guided during their developmental years undoubtedly plays an important role in the type of person they will become in life. The author Wes does a good job of letting you read this story and the circumstances surrounding the character, his mother, Joy, played such an important role in his success, while comparing Mary's role to that of the mother on the other Wes. Both boys grew up with strong, hardworking black women in their lives, and yet this allowed them to experience two completely different journeys. I think the lack of fathers and not having good male role models also played a role.
