    “The first duty of a police officer is to protect people and property” (Johnson). To do this, officers patrol designated areas, respond to calls for help, arrest individuals, issue citations and testify in court. Although tasks may vary from day to day and call to call, these are the main things that all agents must do in all branches. However, if an officer gets a promotion to become a school police officer, he or she must meet all of these requirements and more. “The primary duties of district officers include enforcing all federal, state, and local laws as well as board policies” (“District Police Department”). This shows that because they are different from a normal officer, they must take on more tasks and enforce more rules than they otherwise would. But regardless of their rank or branch, they must always protect people and some go so far as to sacrifice their lives for their cause. Without the sacrifices made by law enforcement, the danger would be immense and no one would be able to live in peace. The streets would be filled with even more crime and everyone would be exposed to senseless murders and drug dealing, to name a few. Despite the many daily dangers they face, officers maintain a professional and positive mentality throughout their careers.
