Although technology has allowed people to broaden their horizons, it has also opened more doors to danger. The World Wide Web is wreaking havoc on our own lives without us even knowing it. From bullying to sexual predators, social media harms people's reputations and even destroys their lives through cyberbullying, online chat rooms and pornography. Cyberbullying is one of the biggest dangers of today's online life, especially among teenagers. Although many people think they understand what cyberbullying is, few understand its effects. It can cause anxiety, depression, and in some cases even suicide. According to the Center for Disease Control, there are 4,400 suicide deaths per year, with bullying being a major contributor to this high figure. Thanks to today's technological advances, the Internet is now accessible 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, whether you are in front of a computer or not. The invention of the smartphone made it possible to connect to the Internet wherever we are. Cyberbullying can take place via Facebook, Twitter, emails, text messages, and there are no limits when you have the World Wide Web at your fingertips. . An ever-increasing statistic regarding cyberbullying is that more than 50% of minors have been bullied online, while just under half have participated in cyberbullying. Additionally, more than 25% have been bullied not just once, but repeatedly (bullying and suicide). This ongoing danger continues to affect the lives of not only adolescents but adults as well. Once a crude comment or explicit image has been posted online for the world to see, there is no turning back and the damage is done. Cyberbullying ruins reputations and can cause serious health problems for the person in the middle of a paper... with a devastating effect on reality. In other words, “it makes real sex and even the real world boring in comparison.” It particularly anesthetizes a man’s emotional life” (7 negative effects…). Finally, blatantly, sexploitation can lead to the total destruction of the family. It is obvious that social media represents a great danger today. People are exposed to its dangers more frequently and at younger ages. This leads to harassment, sexual solicitation, and sometimes even death. It's easy to dismiss this topic and think that this wouldn't happen to yourself, but that's not true. I myself did not understand the dangers until I experienced bullying, sexual solicitation and pornography. It's not something to take lightly and with the right amount of precaution and awareness, the dangers of social media can be limited. This does not only concern minors but also adults.
