Essay / The Dharma of Mahayana Buddhism - 1067
Advanced technology and luxurious items seem to bring humans into a “modern world”. However, it seems that these 21st century technologies and objects have created even more dissatisfaction, the duhkha. Death, blood and war, these words come up almost every day in the newspapers. Despite these external dissatisfactions, humanity becomes internally more selfish and more solitary. In fact, hypochondria is becoming so popular that one in seven adults experience it. In our society today, Buddhism, especially Mahayana Buddhism, becomes a remedy for the duhkha we face today. The Dharma of Mahayana Buddhism becomes very useful in solving many, if not all, problems that humans face today. Mahayana Buddhism believes in the Way of the Bodhisattva, which is the path to awakening by achieving enlightenment of one's own being and, more importantly, to helping others achieve enlightenment. What the Bodhisattva Path is is too complicated, but the first step of the Bodhisattva Path is very simple; teach others the dharma and help others. The concept of the Six Perfections and the belief in the Three Bodies of Buddha act like a star that guides people through a dark forest. What the Six Perfections led to was asking people to act in ways that respected everything and were kind to everything; in fact, what our modern world needs is a little respect and kindness. If modern humans believe in the Three Bodies of Buddha, it will "force" people to act in the best way to obtain good karma and in the hope that they will be reborn in a place such as the Pure Land of Amitabha Buddha. Mahayana Buddhism will not do this. bringing wealth to people and the Bodhisattva Path is rather difficult and not everyone wants to walk it. However, the philosophy of Mahayana Buddhism will bring peace of mind, harmony of life and happiness to the world. Aren't these the things that all humans in the modern world are eager to find ??
