Essay / My Experience with the False Dilemma The false dilemma is the only type of error I clearly remember falling victim to. It was in order to convince my judgment. The false dilemma is a type of false fallacy, which involves reducing an argument to one or two options when more than one exists. To achieve a particular level of persuasion, the options offered in a false dilemma do not go to the extremes of the problem. This makes it credible and therefore accurate in the act of persuading someone. It is also important to note that options are drawn from a spectrum of possibilities. Presenting a false choice is a deliberate action to eliminate additional actions that might neutralize the problem and return it to common ground. Such an experience is therefore likely to hurt the victim during their subsequent achievements. However, it is possible to detect, overcome and weaken an error. This can be achieved by exploring and considering other possibilities. Such an act leaves little chance of facing a dilemma, as knowledge is considered the most powerful solution. The specific topic of discussion was marijuana use and why it was illegal in most countries. I remember my neighbor convincing me that marijuana is implicated in the serious effects of mental illness and should not be tolerated by any means. This has created a negative perception towards the drug and its users. Every time I made a friend and later realized they were abusing drugs, I considered them irresponsible and ended the relationship with immediate effect. I didn't know that while it is logical that marijuana abuse is harmful, it is wrong to believe that there are no benefits to the drug. After taking classes on the subject, I realized that this drug has medicinal purposes and that states that recognize it as less harmful have actually legalized its use. My neighbor and friend made me follow his attitude toward drugs simply by omitting certain facts regarding this topic and feeding me planned ideas that I needed to hear to gain a similar perspective. The decision not to misuse or abuse marijuana could have been made without having to deceive myself. Although it didn't change much, I was surprised to find that this information had been hidden from me. The mistake worked mainly because my neighbor managed to evoke an attitude that I wouldn't have if all the details were provided. The fact that I still remember this childhood act means that it was a successful act of deception, the results of which had a considerable impact. The worst that has happened is my hatred and negative judgment towards anyone or any nation that has debated the legalization of marijuana. Additionally, I developed resentful feelings toward my friends whenever they dared to show any support for drugs. The story of the therapeutic power of marijuana has humbled me and corrected my attitude, although my moral principles remain. This error would be resolved if I had more in-depth knowledge about the medication..
