    “I will never lie. I will never make a misleading statement. I will never betray the trust that any of you have placed in me. And I will never avoid a controversial issue. President Jimmy Carter said this while addressing the people. He assured them of his reliability and stuck to it throughout his presidency. Throughout his term, President Carter made many choices to focus on domestic affairs and manage multiple objectives at once. It is these qualities that have made him, and many other presidents, effective leaders of our country. President Carter came into office with a humble but strong background. He grew up on a peanut farm in Georgia, but continued to serve in the Navy and became governor of Georgia. President Carter studied at Georgia Southwestern College and the Georgia Institute of Technology before transferring to the United States Naval Academy and earning a Bachelor of Science degree in 1946. He also did graduate work in technology of reactors and nuclear physics at Union College. The topics he studied were highly relevant to the energy issues he addressed during his presidency. After serving in the Navy for 7 years and frequently serving in better positions, President Carter was elected to membership in the Georgia State Senate. He has made many advances in the quality of education for all children. However, he made many other changes once he was elected governor of Georgia. First, he launched a statewide day care program and made great strides in improving the education of mentally disabled children. As governor, President Carter also promoted equal rights for women and all races.
