A digital detox: learning to live with technologyJohn T. Gordon (Rusty), son of John TR Gordon and Lois Gordon, and father of two, 35 years old, was unusually absent from the lives of his family members. His absence was so unusual because he still attended “every baseball, softball, soccer, basketball practice and game, even the piano recitals and dance classes” (Faces, 2014) that his children attended. Rusty was even part of the only father-son usher team in the state of Ohio that strengthens the father-son bond. His absence was not due to travel, irregular hours as a law enforcement officer, or even any family separation, which has become commonplace. It was the result of something much darker. Lois' worst fear came true one night when there was a knock at the door. The visitor was the bearer of bad news; that while Rusty was riding his motorcycle, he was hit head-on by a truck that was swerving into his lane. The impact broke his neck, killing him instantly. Phone records were subpoenaed, and at the time of the crash, the other driver was on the phone. Rusty’s father, John, said: “I was angry. I'm still angry. It’s almost like texting is an addiction among these young adults and even teenagers” (Faces, 2014). One could infer that John is so angry not only because he lost his son, but also because he probably thinks the loss of his son was avoidable. .Who or what is primarily responsible for the overall percentage of distracted driving incidents?
