Essay / Labor and Delivery Unit Observation Report - 1023
The Labor and Delivery Unit is an incredible place filled with pleasant, friendly and knowledgeable staff members who help bring miracles in this world. The unit's clientele was made up of patients of different ages. The patients were aged 16, 17, 21 and 35 years. Unit staff members have always worked well with each other. They were non-judgmental about all customer situations. There were women at all stages of life in the unit. They were all culturally diverse, some had a very large, open, close-knit family, while others had a small, private family present. For some, it was their very first child and wanted it to be their last; for others, it was not their first and they had several other children. The staff seemed to work well together. Never during my shift did I see anyone get angry, even though it was a roller coaster ride. One minute no one was busy and the next there was too much to do. The staff handled this well; They separated and designated the tasks to be accomplished. No one complained about the work they had to do. The staff were efficient, pleasant, calm and worked well together at all times. To complete my labor and delivery rotation for NUR-113, I was assigned to a client on the labor and delivery unit and followed her labor process throughout during my shift. work, I observed the role of the nurse, the role of the doctor, the medications administered, the patient, his family and I evaluated myself. The client the nurse was helping was a 21 year old single white female with O+ blood, at the end of my shift she gave birth to a beautiful baby boy after some complications during the labor process.
