Essay / The Perfect Society - 1147
These castes are carved in stone, and one cannot change the designation under which they are labeled. They focus on “making people like their social destiny,” which essentially forces people to conform and accept their social placement (Huxley 16). Today, in our modern society, it is extremely difficult to progress within the existing societal system. Generally, if you are poor, you don't change anything about it throughout your life. It is far too difficult to change your level on the scale and it takes constant work to make a difference in your situation. Additionally, people are stereotyped and classified into social groups based on qualities such as race and other physical qualities. Once in these groups, it is very difficult to break the stereotype and progress in the world. These people who are discriminated against will begin to think that they cannot leave their position, so they create a mindset that tells them that they cannot advance. This mindset can make people lose the will to try to succeed. The parallel between social systems is a major idea to pay attention to, as our society may end up transforming into a caste-like system.
