A genetically modified organism or GMO is classified as “an organism whose genetic material has been modified, in particular by genetic engineering. » (http://www.biology-online.org/dictionnaire/OGM). GMOs are created by deliberately removing a gene from one organism and moving or modifying it in order to improve or modify another organism in the laboratory. There are two different ways to genetically modify organisms. The first is called "selective breeding", in which a plant with the desired trait is selected to produce more plants with that trait. The second method involves engineering by removing the desired gene from plant A and transferring that gene into plant B. Plants created in this way are called transgenetic plants. This type of genetic engineering is typically performed on crops to create crops that are resistant to insects and herbicides.
