  • Essay / Discrimination: good or bad? - 1076

Oxford, North Carolina, 1970, this city has changed and there was no turning back. At this time in Oxford, integration had started to happen in neighboring towns and now people wanted Oxford to change as other towns had done. It was a difficult time for whites because they were used to blacks keeping their word and looking down on them, and now blacks and whites were supposed to be treated equally. While the surrounding towns where the integration of Oxford residents was still discriminatory. In "Blood Done Sign My Name", people understand the true story of the events that happened in Oxford around 1970. Between 1970 and 2014, there were still issues of discrimination against different types of religions, of races, sexes and other categories. One that came to mind was Arizona's proposed House Bill 1062, which would incorporate important new religious precautions into the state's anti-discrimination laws. In the book "Blood Done Sign My Name", Timothy B. Tyson talks about the different events, these events took place when he was little but he was able to research other people who had been to Oxford and who had experienced these events. Some of the events that Tim thought were important to include in his book were about discrimination with the integration of blacks and whites in one school, a white lady who got Mr. Tyson kicked out of her church because he was black, the hiring employers and an all-white jury when he spoke about a murder that happened in Oxford. We can relate all of these events to stories that we still hear today. Especially Arizona House Bill 1062, which talks about religious rights and beliefs. This bill will provide legal protection to business owners who refuse to serve gay people. The discrimination in the book, I would say, is one of...... middle of paper...... in a life. Some of the differences between these two are one talking about the two different races and the other talking about how two types of people want to live their lives. Either way, people will want something different than what they already have. Works Cited "Arizona bill sparks debate over discrimination, raises complicated legal questions." Fox News.
