    Yun Lee is Director of the School of Art and Art History at the University of Illinois at Chicago. It is the classic story of a man who suffered the evils of slavery. The author shows how, in the first half of the story, he is silent and helpless, as he witnesses horrific displays of brutality towards him and other slaves. As he gains the ability to speak by becoming able to read, he becomes more and more powerful and more and more vocal. Yun Lee argues the point of powerlessness and silence that results in marginalization and enslavement of people who are outside the dominant language and prevents them from learning the dominant language.
