Essay / An account of my desire to pursue a career in graphic design
Everyone was asked, “What do you want to be when you grow up?” » or “What is your dream job?” at some point in life. Not all individuals are ready to give a direct answer to these questions, and that is understandable. Making a sudden choice about what you would like to do with your career throughout your life is a difficult, heavy and pressure-filled decision. For a long time, I didn't know what to answer when asked one of these questions. I too found the decision very difficult to make. I haven't fully made up my mind yet, but thanks to my skills and favorite hobbies, I have become interested in the ever-expanding field of graphic design. Fortunately, a man who has been a friend of my family longer in the family tree than I have spent much of his career in graphic design. He now has a career as a professional musician and frontman of his own band, but before he took the stage he was sitting at a desk. I'm not really sure what type of graphic design I'd like to make a living, but my interest and ever-growing practice in digital media is pointing me toward an animation studio or advertising team. I seem to have a knack for drawing images on paper, then scanning and editing them to create a mastered final product. I once took a web design class and found it pretty boring. So I don't really think that creating websites and individual web pages is really my strong suit. I asked Matt if a degree in graphic design was a requirement for getting a job in graphic design. His response was, “Not all places require you to have a degree. It certainly helps you get noticed, but some places will give you a chance if you can show them your skills. This is what happened to me. I didn't go to school for graphic design, but I worked for a company in Orlando that designed ads and signs for local business people and they let me in after I provided them with some samples of work that I had done personally.
