Even though locking him in the house wasn't the best way to keep him safe, she was trying to keep him safe. This experience didn't stop him from wanting to be like his brother, it made him want to think about the bigger picture before making a decision. Because to improve his critical thinking, he started thinking about the pros and cons of a situation. He began to wonder why people in this situation, his mother, reacted a certain way about a subject (i.e. his brother). He also began to think about how this reaction might affect him if he decided to embrace it or ignore it. His process has changed because before, he was only concerned with the impact of his decision on his present moment. Would this decision lead to more pleasure than he had right now? Is this something he could get away with now or would he get caught before he can really enjoy it? He is now thinking about the impact of his action on his future. As he gets older, critical thinking plays a more important role in his life.
