  • Essay / Power outages due to typhoons in the Philippines

The Philippines straddles the typhoon belt, which means the country experiences a number of typhoons, especially during the rainy season. It is inevitable that some power lines will be damaged during onslaught of storms, which causes power outages and in turn affects all electrical connections in all establishments. Being an electricity dependent business, this poses a major problem for the business. Another reason is scheduled electrical maintenance set by the local electricity distributor (Batangas Electric Cooperative II or BATELEC II). Like power outages, two of the main reasons for poor internet connection are strong winds and heavy rain which disrupt the signal transmitted by the internet service provider. . Other reasons may include faulty wiring, loose cable connections, and modem errors. Another problem arises due to the sudden popularity of USB drives. It has become easier for computer users to transfer, copy and backup their files from one gadget to another. Along with this convenience, USB drives inserted into virus-infected computers can easily carry viruses and spread them to other devices once the inflicted USB drive is used. As with all electronic equipment, prolonged use and power outages gradually degrade the durability of computer components. Computer hardware is generally considered delicate equipment, heat and humidity can also cause damage, but the most common cause is human error. The network cafe or internet cafe business business has become extremely popular, especially now.
