Boys will be boysA magnet elementary school has its advantages and disadvantages. In my case, my family saw that there were more pros than cons, great ethnic diversity, cheaper than private school, no dress code, etc. With all of this in mind, I ended up in a magnet school, not to mention attending the same high school from K-8th grade. Overall, I consider my time there to be a good kid, but like most kids, I had my good times and my bad times. My early years were pretty much par for the status quo when it came to behavioral and educational standards. I would do all my homework and be a good little boy in class. It wasn't until I reached middle school that I started to rebel a little. In my seventh grade class, I felt like I was ready to be treated like an equal adult. What I mean by that is that I didn't want to be told what to do. With this attitude in mind, I have encountered nothing but trouble left and right. In my class, if you weren't good, there would be different consequences. For example, if you were caught cheating on an exam, you would receive a zero and write an assignment; but if you don't behave well in class, you will have to sit right next to the teacher's desk. Sitting next to the teacher's desk was the worst nastiness in seventh grade, and the funny thing about my class was that there was a group of four people who had achieved this ultimate nastiness, of which I was one. When anyone received this "honor" the facial expression was totally devastated, but deep inside we felt a kind of coolness. It was like having the ultimate popularity in class. All students would respect children brave enough to rebel in front of a teacher. Being the last person to join the group for listening to my Walkman in class, I was very honored to join. I remember it very well, when I started to move my desk closer to the teacher's, I noticed that the other members of the group were making a sort of "welcome" sign, like a smirk or a wave. head. This sign gave me a feeling of acceptance.
