Literature reviews allow researchers to gain knowledge on the subject, plus they are also “non-reactive, meaning they do not include direct contact with the subjects and will not influence the results. However, there is no way to determine whether the data is accurate and researchers may also fail to acquire literature on their research topic. For these reasons, secondary data analysis is not considered the most reliable or valid form of research in sociology. If the researcher was using the sociological approach, the next step would be to choose the sample size. Therefore, by allowing the researcher to identify the age, race, and gender he or she would prefer to study, the sociologist can stay organized and obtain reliable results. Research samples are not used as part of the scientific method, which is negative when studying society because the research may be too large and the results will not be as accurate. Finally, sociological research ends with the analysis of the data and the interpretation of the results. However, this is not done within the scientific method as it simply ends with the presentation of results. Therefore, the scientific method does not provide a clear view of why results are a certain way, which is necessary to study and understand society.
