Essay / A Test for Humanity - 1664
The century-long discussion over animal experimentation is one that puts scientists and humanitarians at constant odds. Scientists consider it influential and essential in the medical and scientific fields. However, humanitarians believe that any testing or experimentation on animals should be banned and that the aid it provides to the medical industry could easily be determined by the use of other tests and experiments, not including animals. To further show the cruelty and inhumane experiments on animals, the study of cosmetics production will be a prominent topic. Companies cruelly test animals, both mentally and physically, to get the perfect foundation or cleaning product. After discovering that such morally reprehensible activities were used to create your favorite brand of mascara or lipstick and could have caused an animal to become extinct, would you still buy that product? The majority of women use some sort of cosmetic product in their daily lives, according to the Huffington Post, “67% of women use between 0 and 3 products in their morning hair and beauty routine,” with the remaining 33% using a range between 4 and 12 products. Therefore, by further exploring both materialism and the production of a potentially lethal product for animals, it takes the animal testing argument to a more intimate level. This argument, valid among most women over the age of 14, loses some credibility to the benefit of the male gender, due to the obvious fact that men do not contribute much to cosmetic sales. However, some companies that cater to vegans and vegetarians believe that any form of animal, outside of its natural state, is considered inhumane and outrageous. Bull Dog, a skin care company, directly targets its men's products, 6 and proudly...... middle of paper ...... procedures and tests for which there are still alternative tests must be the priority of scientists to get them developed. The sooner these tests become available, the high prices some companies complain about for these humane tests will become a secondary concern. This will happen because, as they are more accepted in laboratories and businesses, their infiltration will not be as costly. In the meantime, while we're still fighting this one-sided battle, try not to buy products that don't have the PETA logo, the cruelty-free bunny. It's unrealistic to ask an entire population to refuse to buy these products because many don't find it morally wrong, but if enough people refuse to buy, companies will just have to change their procedure. By neglecting this problem, you are contributing to the death of more than 100 million animals per year..
