Essay / Qualities that build strong character - 777
Does your character have what it takes? Sam Haskell states in his book Promises I Made My Mother: “When you take away everything, when you strip a person of the superficial additions, all that is left is their true self” (14). This quote stood out to me because in today's world we base everything we have on physical appearance or how many material objects we can collect. At university, we will experience many new things and our character will be tested. I plan to work hard to uphold my morals and stay true to myself. Sam also says that “character is at the core of our being” (14); it is what truly unites us and what we should strive to be faithful to. For me, the qualities that make a strong character are honesty, hard work and humility. When I was younger, someone told me that honesty was the best policy, and I learned that the hard way. One evening, a group of my friends and I wanted to spend the night at one of my friends' houses. I knew my parents weren't going to let me go to this friend's house, so I ended up lying to them and telling them we were spending the night at someone else's house. When we arrived at my friend's house we started playing games and watching movies. My parents called my cell phone to check on me, but I didn't hear it ring. Well, my parents called the house where I was supposed to be and my friends and I weren't there. The next day, they acted as if nothing had happened and asked me if I wanted to tell them something. I said no, there wasn't any. They told me that they found out that I had lied to them and that I had been punished for a long time. One way or another, parents always find out the things we do wrong. Needless to say, I didn't do that again. Next year at university I will be able to be honest when I find myself in the middle of a sheet of paper, which is within my power to bring things back to the way they were before, but that was not happening just not. . One morning while doing my devotional, I read in my devotional book that without God, everything we try will fail. It was as if God was saying, “Take a big slice of humble pie here. » In college, humility will play an important role for me as I will have to remember to ask God to humble me every day. This, I believe, will further deepen my relationship with the Lord. In conclusion, I will do my best to make sure my character survives and my morals remain the same. I will be honest when meeting new people to build a strong relationship with them. Working hard will be an everyday thing for me to achieve my goal. I will ask God to give me humility every day. Overall, I hope I can live an honorable life that will be an example to the people around me..
