    Given that “70% of the world's surface” (Recyclebank, 2014) is covered in water, there seems to be an infinite amount of it. However, only “1% of the world's water is drinkable” (EPA, 2013). Water is a vital necessity and we do not have it in infinite quantity. This is why I want to encourage you to save water. This not only benefits us, but also the earth and the environment. By conserving water you can help delay water shortages, save money and it only takes small, simple changes to make a difference. First of all, by saving water, we can delay water shortage. Many important water supplies, such as rivers, are drying up due to increasing water wastage. Scientists warn that there is a “50% chance that Lake Mead will dry up by 2021” (Real Truth, 2008). Lake Mead provides water to more than “25 million people, including those in Arizona” (Real Truth, 2008). Researchers also calculate that if by 2014 water consumption continues to increase, there is a "10 percent chance that Lake Mead will no longer provide usable water" (Real Truth, 2008).
